It’s impossible to not be reactive when everything we value is under attack.

The outrage, shock, disgrace, hurt and embarrassment are overwhelming.

The dismay at witnessing #DonTheCon, the GOP, Sean Hannity and CNN hired heavies lie, obfuscate and torment is a direct assault to our integrity and values. 

Just a bit of a recap -

England and Israel are limiting their intelligence sharing as Don the Con freely shares classified information with the Russians, President and murderer Duterte of the Philippines and perhaps the press. His boastful ignorance puts us all in danger.

He wants to destroy NATO and all our alliances.

Ben Carson thinks poverty is a state of mind and Betsy DeVos would do nothing to protect students from discrimination.

Of course, there’s last nights attack of a reporter by the Montanan GOP candidate. How about making a few calls for Rob Quist today and flipping a seat in the House? He’s the candidate that wants to save healthcare and doesn’t assault reporters.  It’s a long shot as many in Montana have already voted and well, it does feel good to help in every way we can.

It’s hard to not want to put my head in the sand like an ostrich until it’s all over with as their cruelty is not only sickening, it’s exhausting.

Have I utterly depressed you? I didn’t mention Manchester or homelessness or the climate yet.

I had a Buddhist meditation teacher who frequently said “facts are friendly”. Meaning knowing the truth is empowerment and it gives a place to work from. The above is our truth.

It’s also true that students walked out of their graduation when Mike Pence began speaking.

And Mitch Landrieu made a speech about the confederacy that makes you proud to be an American and a human.

Two republican districts flipped State seats blue and added two more women to our political spectrum.

Provincetown, MA has started a program for LGBTQ youth in danger to come their and live / work / play for the summer.

And there are the heroes in Congress like Ted Lieu and Maxine Waters who unabashedly speak truth and call for justice

This is progress. This is what happens when we work together. Good things happen when people of conscious, moral integrity and values show up.

We are stronger together when we are awake to the fact that we have shared humanitarian and conservationist values.  There is no real binary when our shared values are human life, education, clean air and water, equality, opportunity for all, healthcare for all.

The only way through is by doing the hard work. And it is hard. And it’s worth every moment of pain to pick up the phone and dial for Democracy.

National Monuments = National Treasures.

My wife and I recently spent a few glorious days bouldering and hiking around Joshua Tree National Park.  Experiencing the vastness of our planet, the sacred and profane energetic force of earth, spirit, environment while recognizing how small we are feeds my soul, blows up my creativity and connects me to what is essential in this moment and in my life. 

While lying on the rocks and feeling awe struck by everything around me, I wondered aloud if Trump and his Klan of greed mongers had ever spent time in a National Park. His desire to mine nature for monetary reward and his and Pence's selection of Scott Pruitt for EPA and Ryan Zinke for the Interior, made me wonder if perhaps they have never felt the holy awesome of the natural world.

Trump signed an Executive Order to "review" 27 national monuments. Trump in all his huge ignorance wants to destroy our national treasures and ONLY WE CAN STOP THEM. 

Zinke, a Montanan, should know better than to declassify our national monuments and to drill or deforest and develop our national parks. And yet, he is just following orders. Another foot solider from hell. 

There remain so many actions to take daily -  fighting for healthcare, stopping the sickening budget proposal, knowing the facts about the plan to defund public education, and today we focus on our mother earth.  Still CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES about all just mentioned (seriously, you should have their numbers in your speed dial by now), please take a moment to let the Department of the Interior know your thoughts about our national monuments, aka our National Treasures.

What is Courage?

When thinking about those who show great courage by doing what is unthinkable, unpopular, near impossible, I wonder what compels such behavior.

What makes somebody go into war zones and save children?

What makes somebody hide Jews from Nazis or Tutsis from Hutus? What makes people walk in the front of the line peacefully on a bridge in Selma knowing they could be beaten and perhaps killed? How did the people protecting Standing Rock endure water cannons in freezing temperatures?

What makes a child stand with another child who is being ridiculed by her peers? What compelled my wife to get down on the street in Austin last month to save a man's life instead of walking over him like the masses around us were doing?

Courage, from my point of view, occurs when one's integrity and heart are in alignment and perhaps it is that alignment that creates empathy. And perhaps empathy, feeling the pain that others are experiencing, is what makes us do the unthinkable, or what is humanely right, and what we deem as courageous. 

The beauty and challenge of the time we live in right now is how much courage is required. How much pain we have to witness and endure at the hands of those without integrity.

How our hearts have broken wide open to bare witness to the helplessness of families whose sons are innocently murdered by police as the justice system fails. The pain of the bigotry in New Orleans over confederate statues. Imagining the fear our immigrant neighbors feel each time they leave their homes. And knowing in Chechnya, Gay people are being murdered because of who they love. That if I lived in Chechnya, my family would be encouraged to murder me.

The truth is that none of us are well, if any of us are unjustly suffering. Regardless of how many places I travel to, how many friends I have, how great my business is, even if my health is good, if any member of my human family (as Obama put it) is suffering, we all suffer.

Each time we awaken to the suffering of others, each time we donate to a cause or a campaign, each time we pick up the phone, or show up for a protest, each time we encourage each other to be kinder, each time we stop needing to be right in order to be in relationship - we are changing the course of our history.

Courage shows up in acts big and small. In loving vulnerably. In reaching out when it's hard to do. By trying different. By experiencing pain and joy as it hurts to be this awake and it's in full integrity to be this awake.

2. It's Town Hall season again as MoC are home for recess. Connect with your local Indivisible Group to find out what you can do when and where. And for us in blue states with blue representatives, continue expressing thanks for voting against #ACHA and for humanity. 

3. The EPA and Department of the Interior are firing those with the facts. They are reducing these two agencies, whose purpose is to protect the environment and our public lands, to garbage dumps. Let your Representatives know this is acceptable. Give to environmental organizations like Greenpeace and Earth First. The Blizzard is Upon Us.

I often visualize the day we bring trump, his klan, and the cruel and heartless GOP down. The massive spontaneous partying in the streets, horns honking, bands playing and champagne popping. Everybody is there, pussy hats on, dancing, singing, cheering and making out with strangers out of sheer ecstasy. And nine months later a whole new generation of babies are born named Justice, Victory, Joy and Pride.

Then I wonder what we’d do if he died or was murdered in office. Would we celebrate the way people did when Osama Bin Laden was killed? Would we take to the streets chanting USA! USA! USA! While I was beyond relieved Bin Laden was gone, it bothered me the way his death was celebrated. It confused me and left me empty.

It was later explained to me that many of those celebrating were quite young during 9/11 and for them, Bin Laden’s death was the death of a reoccurring nightmare. It freed them from fear and their exhalation was the release of childhood haunts. 

If trump died or were murdered, I believe I would be in the streets chanting USA! USA! USA! as this government is one long nightmare of cruelty, torture, abuse, neglect, greed, corruption, obscenity, disregard, violence...oh how the list goes on.

When my outrage is just plain rage, I fantasize that the men in this regime never get laid again. Seriously, they are forever denied sexual pleasure. Or even better, the women in their lives (or men in Mike Pence’s case and maybe Paul Ryan’s – they could be lovers) are Lorena Bobbitt inspired and well, we know how that story went. Castration is not a pre-existing condition so they’d be covered.

And yet, yesterday when reading tweets from Trump voters devastated by the neglect of this healthcare bill, I felt compassion. I felt like there was an open window to lean into and say that we care about this and we care about you. I replied to several tweets letting a few misguided supporters know that while trump and the GOP care little about them, we, the liberal snowflakes, care a lot.  We, the liberal snowflakes are blowing up a mighty storm with an avalanche of action to save our democracy, to save our humanity and to ensure all Americans have the right to healthcare.

Single payer in 2020 seems more possible today than it did yesterday.

And so while the fantasies are fuel to my fire, and while I do believe we will have the victory dance party in the streets, there is still so much to be done before the avalanche takes them down.

If you need to a bit more of a nudge to take action on a Friday afternoon, just look at who voted yesterday to destroy the lives of millions of people.

Remember, that perhaps half of them didn't read the bill. This, for them, is about a win and not at all about us, the American people. They do not serve us and it's time that we let them know that this is their last term. A blizzard is coming.

b) And while we're donating, let's help LGBT community in Chechnya who are being sent to death camps. I really can't process this and it's true. This organization in Canada fights for the lives of persecuted LGBT people. Give a little to save a life, if you can.

Thankfully School House Rock still educates Americans on how the passage of bills works. Seems this Congress needs a refresher. Their victory dance in the Rose Garden was like celebrating the Falcons win in the 3rd quarter and thinking the Patriots wouldn't make a 4th quarter comeback. Send I'm Just a Bill on Capital Hill to donny and every Republican who prematurely ejaculated, I mean celebrated, denying healthcare to 24+ million.

The Rainbow Connection.

Seattle is having ridiculously long winter. Extra cold, rainy, hail, grey with bursts of glorious sun, so many rainbows. My garden is half planted. The lilacs are just beginning to bloom. My hoody sweatshirts and furry slippers are a daily staple. It's hard to remember what month it is. That's what happens when winter is long, time becomes hard to track.

A friend once explained Seattle winters as a souls retreat. An emotional and physical hibernation, a restoration for revitalization. Living in the great northwest, it's important to believe this. We are restoring so when the sun comes, we are in full force ready for our 18 hour days.

The rainbow reminder is the long winter salve. The fantastical rainbows have been in full force, reminding us that the sun still shines, that beauty is everywhere, that optimism is the light to guide us through.

I started sending Easy Activism mails on November 18th. For a long while, I sent them daily. Earlier this month, I started skipping days and sending three a week. Lately it's down to one. I think it had something to do with long winter for America and my need for a souls retreat.

Clearly we all do. We need to play and but politics aside. We need a break from the madness of our inept and obfuscating American government. We need to experience the rainbow connection. 

So, for the long winter of the great glorious northwest, where the rainbows keep appearing in the darkness, we keep seeing the beauty in our lives, we keep playing with each other, we know that the spring / summer / sun / reprieve is out there somewhere. We stay thankful for all of it and we keep fighting the cruelty of this administration and GOP congress.

There is so much to say and so much more to do. Things are once again heating up. The regime is doing something super frightening and bizarre around North Korea and the GOP have proved again that they are unwilling to fight for the rights of American citizens. I can't wait to fire all of them. Remember they work for us and we need to continually remind them of this fact.

Let's USE OUR VOICES to RESIST AND REVITALIZE OUR DEMOCRACY.

Senate Intel Chair Richard Burr is obstructing the Russian investigation. He's refusing to sign papers that allow the committee to do their job. Plus, they haven't hired experienced staffers to do the research needed to really investigate what happened. It's time to Senator Burr to recuse himself.

2. Call Your Senator to let them know we need an INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATION and Senator Burr needs to recuse himself. 

 

3. Trump is delivering the keynote address today at the US Holocaust Museum. While this is a long standing tradition, this is also a president who employs white supremacists, who's press secretary is a bumbling idiot about holocaust history and he has said little to nothing about hate crimes against Jews (and other people. 4. There is a new Director of State Highways in Maui and he is super gong ho on using cancer causing and environmental killer ROUND-UP. This Monsanto product should be banned as it is a killer. Let Director Donald Smith know that we don't want to be poisoned, ask them to use a non-toxic solution (they have one) and tell him we will not travel to Maui if Round Up is being used 808.873.3538.

The one thing we know in this 97 days of administrative madness and the months leading up to the madness after November 8th is OUR VOICE matters. People are listening and joining us and we are creating a powerful movement of resistance and love. It's really quite simple. We elect new leaders, starting today with Jon Ossoff and moving forward one by one, special election to general election. And we impeach the Donald klan as they are all so stinky disgusting vile and dirty.

WE CARE - we really really do.

The regime will continue signing horrible, hurtful executive orders.  The GOP will continue passing bad bills.  Hopefully war is not in our future.

And, WE will continue resisting and advancing the rights of all people, animals and the environment.

We must, on a daily basis, continue to demand trump’s tax returns, an independent investigation into Russia’s interference in our elections, calling out the hypocrisy and supporting the positive.

Let's remember to thank our legislatures who are fighting hard for progress and let them know we are with them as they are with us.

We must continue supporting progressives who advance social justice, environmental health and economic welfare.

We need to know what seats are opening in our cities, towns and states and either run for office and / or know who’s running for office and support them.  We must actively and passionately get out the vote with every ounce of energy we have. That's how elections are won. It's how history is made.

We need to make sure we are taking care of each other and ourselves. I am tired. I need to take breaks from the news. My heartbreak can bring me down. I didn’t march this weekend as I was too exhausted.

And I am energized to create change, really paradigm shifting change, change where we have the clarity to be and love as we are and for who we are. 

Restoration matters. Giving yourself permission to take a break is hard. Dancing like crazy helps. Art is delicious. Working out and sleeping really matter.  Keeping the faith will keep us sane. There are more good, loving, positive people in the world than not. 

We need to stay awake - open, engaged, informed and activated.

We need to keep caring, everyday. 

My efforts are moving onto a new energy, which is an old energy and gives me a ton of energy. My focus will be on women, all women, advancing the rights, well-being, welfare, societal framework and economic equality for women.

2. Jon Ossoff's election is tomorrow. He needs to get 50% of the vote to win otherwise there will be a runoff in June. He's close, polling about 43%. If you have a moment, please make some calls for Jon. If you know votes in Atlanta, ask them to knock on some doors today and tomorrow. This win would be most delicious and we do love delicious. Let's elect Jon!

We all know what's happening.

Our focus remains RUSSIA, TAXES,, ELECTING PROGRESSIVES (Jon Ossoff is this coming Tuesday), OVERTHROWING THIS GOVERNMENT, FIGHTING FOR OUR RIGHTS, MAKING SURE HEALTHCARE EXISTS, AND CARING FOR THE HEALTH OF OUR PLANET AND PEOPLE.

And it's Friday and Fridays are about gratitude and goodness.

I remain grateful to you, this community of inspired activists. To my wife who helps me grow even when I don't think I can. To our beautiful puppies. To our freedom of speech. To house parties and dance parties and the fact that tonight we see Alec Baldwin. 

Yesterday, I stumbled upon a post of fierce woman warriors standing in resistance to those who try and shut us down. 

These women are fire, the fire of people fighting for our lives. That is exactly what we are doing too. This is about our future. This is about our safety. This is about our humanity. We, too, are fighting for our lives and the lives of our brothers and sisters.

Show up. Resist. Love harder. Protest - Tax March and BLM this Saturday.

I'm sick of listening to, reading about and seeing the face of Donald J. Trump. I'm sick of the media dissecting his speech, actions or lack thereof. I'm sick of the excuses. I'm sick of the incompetence. I'm sick of the insults, the lies, the blaming, the accusations. Mostly I'm sick of his stupidity.

Seriously, exhausted by it.

We need this administration out of the White House before they get us into a war we can't recover from. Yesterday, trending in my news feed, was an article of how to stay safe in a Nuclear attack. I studied that article since both Ann Coulter and North Korea are excited about nuclear weapons reaching Seattle. I'm thankful we have a basement to hide out in. Simply need to stock it up so we're ready.

It's exhausting to think this way.

It's exhausting to know that people are profiting off of detention centers where thousands of immigrants are being paid a dollar a day for work that should be paid a living wage. It's exhausting to know there are thousands of immigrants in these centers. It's exhausting to read the ignorance in the comments from Fox News viewers praising this uncurious and abhorrent man as a great leader when he talks about chocolate cake more eloquently than any plan he has for our society, for our government, for our citizens.

The actions remain quite simple. The imperative to take them down is growing. Let's push him and all the bigots and idiots he has working with him out the door.

TODAY'S EASY ACTIVISM

1. Call the WHITE HOUSE 202-456-1111 and demand they take in Syrian refuges to keep the women, children and men safe from U.S. escalation in Syria. If trump is really concerned, we will take in refuges.

 

2. Call your Congressional Leaders and demand trump's tax returns and an INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATION into Russia. Thank the ones who are fighting for our rights and let the leaders who are abandoning know it's their last term.

3. Phonebank and / or donate to Jon Ossoff in Georgia's 6th district. The election is on Tuesday. The GOP is releasing ads comparing him to Osama Bin Laden.

4. Call the EPA and demand they take care of the people in Flint, MI and protect the children (and adults) from water poisoning. Demand environmental protections. 202-564-4700

5. PROTEST - This Saturday is the Tax March nationwide and Black Lives Matter march in Seattle. Next Saturday, April 22 is the March for Science nationwide SHOW UP! This matters. 

6. Share this information with your network and please encourage them to take these actions.

#Day 82

My wife and I run an Experience and Space Design business. She is an artist, designer and empath. I am a communicator, connector and cultural tuner.

We both are love activists.

Together our mission is to heal environments by designing meaningful, memorable and connecting experiences that make people and place feel uplifted.

Our shared purpose is to elevate spirit.

One of the most challenging aspects of our business is helping clients understand the impact that design has on our wellness. We help them visualize and understand how design affects the lives of their employees, partners, customers, student, essentially whoever enters their space.

Some people get it immediately.

Others don’t notice or understand how lighting, furnishings, layout or colors effects mood, productivity and collaboration.  

Others simply look at the price tag and think they can do it themselves.

Truth is they can. It won’t be the same as what we would deliver and yet, we encourage people to express themselves fully.

There is liberation in creating connective beauty.

There is joy in experiencing connective beauty.

There is a sense of optimism and possibility when immersed in beautiful, thoughtful and intentional design.

Every place I go lately, last night at our friends Passover Seder, over the weekend at coffee with a friend, in a Lyft on our way to a party, everybody I encounter is agitated, worried, not fully embodied.

We are living in a time where beauty, not just aesthetic beauty, but the beauty of hope, optimism and spirit is under attack.

The mere idea of diminishing the arts to beef up the military apparatus robs us of our spiritual fuel.

Creativity, possibility and hope are intrinsically linked.  We see it everyday. When environments are transformed from thoughtlessness into intentionality, people are liberated.

My wife has taken to not watching, listening or reading the news. It’s simply too bleak. It always slanted bleak but now everything is overwhelming.

Yesterday a man walked into a school and shot and killed his wife, a 9-year student, injured another young student and then killed himself. This news has overshadowed by the absurdity and vulgarity of United Airlines.

Are we simply too exhausted by the lack of beauty in our lives that we can’t look at the bleak anymore? The truly bleak and not just the bizarrely bleak.

Last week I watched the Newtown documentary. The parents and the aid workers shared their never-ending heartbreak and activism since the Sandy Hook shooting. The parents of murdered children want us to know what happened that day and need us to be active in what didn’t happen in the aftermath.

Yet, I don’t know any parents who can stomach the idea of watching that documentary as it hits too close to home, it is simply too painful and scary to endure.

Somehow we have to create more beauty so that we can have the ability to face the ugly head on. We can’t turn away from the hard truths as when we stop having the ability to look at what’s happening, they win.

They want to wear us down. They want us to go back to normal, to shopping therapy and the daily actions of our normal lives.

They want us to bury our heads in compliancy or paralysis, as the lack of beauty is so overwhelming.

I know from transforming spaces, that our work changes people lives. Humans are so adaptable that we grow numb to the fluorescent lights and windowless rooms and uncomfortable furnishings. We grow numb to the chipped paint and the randomly placed photos, plants and nick knacks. We will eventually grow numb to the overwhelming abuse of power.

We cannot grow numb. Or too sorrowful to act. Or so angry that nobody can hear us.

We must grow more beautiful. More in love with our brothers and sisters. More in love with mother earth. More in love with our freedoms. More in love with clean water. More in love with equal rights. More in love with truth. More in love with science.  More in love with people loving and being who they are.

We must see the beauty, or create it where it’s missing, in all that we hold sacred and dear.

The beauty keeps us revitalized, engaged, connected, in joy, in hope, in optimism, in possibility, in peace, in community.

Our beauty is our salvation.

You are our beauty.

Why We Fight

I'm going to keep this simple. I didn't write last week as the weight of the inhumanity was dragging me down. I didn't want to share or spread my despair and dis-ease.

Nothing the regime does surprises me. We knew exactly who this guy was going in. We knew how he would behave. We knew the hypocrisy and lies. We knew he was corrupt and he would surround himself with people who let him get away with deceit, bigotry and callousness.

The Congressional GOP were the source of my despair. The inhumanity of Ryan & McConnell, the vulgarity of men like Steve King, the cruelty of the people hired by us to work for us who only work for themselves. 

I keep waiting for the ethical member of the GOP to rear his or her head and say "no more!" McCain says it but doesn't mean it because he still votes with them. I'm looking for real integrity here. I'm looking for a person who has courage enough to let their soul speak. How have they all lost their way?

I often reflect that one person's community is another person's mob scene. These GOP congressional elected officials work in community together and yet they are a mob trying to destroy everything that has any value - rivers, healthcare, freedom, privacy, animals, the list goes on and on and on and on.

The only way through to progress is by voting them ALL out. And Kansas starts tomorrow. Georgia next Tuesday. Montana on May 25th. We can help elect Democrats in these three states and then some.

 

TODAY'S EASY ACTIVISM - 

1. Support James Thompson in Kansas today - phone bank or donate. I know the repeated asks for money is exhausted and I wish we were overturning citizen's united right this moment as I click delete so frequently these days it's like I'm trigger happy. Yet, money wins elections. We really do need to fix that.

Support Jon Ossoff in Georgia. His election is next Tuesday, April 18th. 

Support Rob Quist in Montana. His election is May 25th.

2. Call again, as if you never called before, your Senate and Congressional leaders and keep asking for an independent investigation into Russia's interference in our election. Stay relentless about this.

3. This Saturday April 15th there are Tax Marches around our country depending trump's tax returns. SHOW UP IN FORCE. Let's make all the news media cover this. There is also a Black Lives Matter march in Seattle that same day. I am not certain about the rest of the country. 

4. Support the Syrians who are trapped in a civil war and the refugees the US refuses to shelter. Here's a list of organizations. 

I know resisting the hate is hard. It's exhausting actually. We are awake to the pain of our brothers and sisters. Being awake and experiencing empathy is hard. We will need to step out of the action at times to restore, like I did last week. Take breaks as needed and then come back ready to overthrow. We need every voice and everybody to save and preserve our democracy.

There is much controversy about the Democratic filibuster and the possibility of the Senators with no voicemail, Mitch McConnell, changing the Senate rules to a Nuclear option.  I support the filibuster, even at the risk of the rule change, as IF Russia and Trump colluded in this election, this illegitimate President should not have the privilege to appoint a judge to this court. That is it for me. It has nothing to do with Merrick Garland, it has everything to do with the Russia investigations and the information we do not yet know.

I've noticed my facebook feed is dramatically less political than it was a week or two ago. I know we all need and deserve a break from the overwhelm and horror of corruption, lies and deplorable regime and GOP actions. May I recommend the HOUSE PARTY option.

After the election I read a great piece in The Root on surviving the trump presidency. One of the steps was throw and attend a lot of house parties. Dance. Hang with good friends. Laugh.

On Saturday night we went to the epic uplift of house party's - the hootenanny. A bunch of great friends, in a sweet little house, playing music, singing, telling stories, dancing, drinking and just hanging out. It was awesome. It was connecting. It was an absolute UPLIFT, restorative and nourishing. 

Connective hangs are so needed right now. As much as you can, spend time with like-hearted (phrase coined by my wife) people and LOVE, LIVE, LAUGH and SING AND DANCE your ass off.

It's going to be another wild week friends. Get ready to take some Easy Activism so we can design, shape and create the world we want -- a world where all people thrive.

The Clarity of our Actions

Today's action is so clear and so easy - there is no way a Supreme Court nominee can be appointed by this administration until we know the truth about Russia.

There are still several Democrats on the fence about Neil Gorsuch, thankfully, Maria Cantwell in Washington State is no longer one of them. Republicans should not be walking this party line either. There is too much at stake to allow this administration to appoint and this GOP to confirm an ultra conservative judge that could further erode our democracy when there may have been collusion with Russia.

CALL YOUR SENATORS & LET THEM KNOW UNTIL WE KNOW, NO VOTE.

Yesterday, the Reel Grrls intern, a 15-year-old first generation American, commented how the election made her look at people differently, it made her realize who her friends were and what her classmates valued. 

We know this election has divided us. Yet, it is very sad to hear a young girl in a very progressive State, confirm that. In this regard, our democracy has already been eroded and Russia has succeeded.

Regardless of what happens to this administration and all those working with them, we need to repair our faith in our democracy, our trust in other people and our willingness to work together for the good of all of us.

Russia was successful in pitting Bernie and Hillary supporters against each other. We are still recovery from that. We need to heal quickly as 2018 will be here before we know it. Russia was very successful in wedging a divide between trump supporting Americans and the rest of us. That is transparently clear.

It remains an assault to humanity when I learn somebody voted for trump. It's hurtful, confusing, disgusting, painful and makes me so sad. And yet, they were offered a different kool-aid then we were. It tasted good. They couldn't stop drinking it. Perhaps we need to offer them something else to drink. I don't know if it's possible. Often, I don't want to make the effort.  I do know Russia wins if we fall apart.

We cannot divide further. We need to continue reaching out past our hurt and building bridges. We won't be able to reach everybody. We need to fight this hate, this vulgar display of anti-everything we value, with fierce determined love-powered values-based belief that we are good people, we are hard working people and it's up to us to create the country, society and community we want to live in.

Today's Easy Activism is above, I led with it. Call your Senators. No to Gorsuch. No vote. And if there is a vote, no Gorsuch.

And in the light of us all being one, because we are, an amazing woman on this list, Bernadette Creavan, has been working with a local mosque in Seattle to see how we can best support our Muslim brothers and sisters. They are launching a 6-week program of solidarity called Headscarf Tuesdays where we will wear headscarfs to show our support and oneness with a community being target by the regime.

Remember last Friday when we helped kill the cruel and soulless healthcare bill. We need that. Our calls. Our actions. 

This week has brought us Devin Nunes dance on hot coals, the Senate investigation into Russia's ties into our election and Mike T Mike Flynn volunteering to play the first songbird. In between, of course, there have been horrible bills based robbing women of healthcare, the environment of a fighting chance, LGBT people of protections, all of us our of privacy. Remember that it is our actions that stops this greed. It is our goodness that creates environments of love and care. It is our willingness to connect with others that allows us to thrive. 

The only way through is together. 

Friday's are about gratitude. And so, in gratitude to you, I thank you for being active, engaged, loving, soulful, caring, committed people. We can do this. We can survive this. We can envision the world we want and we can create it together.

Last Night in Austin

Last night in Austin I experienced my wife on purpose.

We had a beautiful dinner in a wonderful little restaurant slightly North of the city. We were walking back through downtown to experience the live music and happenings on 6th Street.
 
It was a complete mob scene, people of all colors and orientations crowding the streets.

As we approached the intersection of Red River and 7th, we saw an older African American gentleman writhing in pain on ground. He was really messed up, frothing from his mouth, fists clenched and his eyes bulging and unblinking. People were literally walking over him to cross the street. We stopped and my wife got down on the ground with him and I called 911.

While I was on the phone with the 911 medic, a lone female police officer pulled up. My wife was holding this mans head in her hands as blood and saliva were pouring out of his mouth or nose, it was impossible to tell from where. The officer just stood there, at a distance, while crowds gathered around doing nothing, while people continued to cross the street, while a trained police officer just watched.

I screamed at the officer to do something. To help my wife, to help this man, simply to help. The medic on the phone was trying to calm me down. I watched helplessly as my wife gently held this man who was flailing about uncontrollably. Suddenly everything in him went limp. His eyes rolled back into his head, his hands unclenched, his legs became two pieces of loose string.

Quickly, my wife took his pulse and rolled him over to begin CPR. Still people stepped around us and the lone police officer, now with rubber gloves on while my wife had none, remained frozen, at a distance, doing nothing.

Once on his back, he lurched back to life. This is an image I cannot stop replaying.

The paramedics arrived and four of them held him down while they began providing aid.
 
Four big guys restrained him. Before that it was my 120-pound wife, alone on the ground with him, holding his head in her hands to keep him from banging it, talking to him, encouraging him to hang on.

More cops arrived. They said he was on K2, a batch of synthetic marijuana that is making people sick, crazy and violent. The lone cop claimed she stayed away because people on K2 can be dangerous. I guess she didn’t want to get hurt and yet it was okay for my wife to get hurt.

There were so many distressing and confusing elements to what we experienced.  
 
What the hell is K2? Why would somebody be selling drugs that hurt people? Why isn’t marijuana legal everywhere?
 
How can people literally walk over a human being, clearly in pain, clearly in need, in the street and do absolutely nothing? Was it because he was black? Was it because we’ve lost our empathy? Have we become careless, literally having no care for each other? Was it fear? Or was it too much trouble to get involved?
 
Why are cops robots? Why have we given them permission to be above humanity and above the law? Is this job destroying them? Seriously, the one cop on the scene was paralyzed and emotionless. I apologized for yelling at her, a few times, the first time because I meant it and the proceeding times to see if there was anybody in there. Answer was no.

We walked back to our AirBnB in shock. My wife’s clothing covered in a stranger’s saliva. We replayed the incident over and over and over and over again.

We woke wondering how he was doing. Hoping he wasn’t dead. Hoping he wasn’t in jail. Hoping he had somebody to care for him.

Thing is, this is our reality. There are so many people in need and so many people walking over them, not stopping, not seeing them, just crossing the street because the light is green.

Hillary Clinton told us about Russia.
 
Donald Trump told us exactly who he is.
 
The media told us what to be fixated on.
 
Social media made us feel both connected to each other and disconnected enough to be cruel to one another.
 
A black man in the street, in apparent pain, in our waking reality, was ignored. By his brothers and sisters, by the system, by our decision to not be involved.

Look, I know if you are reading this, you are engaged.

I know you.
I know your heart. 
I know you are in active pain and despair because of our country’s course.
I am so grateful that you are awake.
I am so grateful I am awake.
I am so grateful my wife’s purpose is so clear as last night when somebody needed it most, she did what she is here to do love, feel love and be love. 

Every morning I wake saying I am done sending these emails. That there is enough information out there for people to take actions, that I don’t need to add to the noise. I want to stop as my own vulnerability to my own humanity, to our humanity, makes me want to shut down. My fear of doing it wrong. Of giving you bad information. Of not being smart enough. Informed enough. Of not being read. Of not being seen. And then I realize, this isn’t about me. None of it is.
 
This is about us. About the world I want to live in with you. About the world I want to create with you. About the community we’re in together. If it where about me, would I have walked over that man in the street? Because it’s about us, I keep stopping to help.
 
The help I can give is to easy ways to engage, to create a platform of information and encouragement, to be uncomfortable in my own discomfort, my feelings of helplessness, my need for affirmation, my sadness that I don’t know what else to do.
 
I constantly absorb information hoping I can learn more and be more helpful.

I just want us all to feel connected to our selves and to each other. I simply want us to stop focusing on the material and feel attuned to the spiritual. The spirit of all of us. The spirit of goodness, kindness, love, generosity and pain.
 
I want to shift the paradigm away from greed and into good. I want to work with you to build it how we dream it. To create it so it feeds all of us and not some of us.
 
I crave this community. I crave this connection. I crave the pause of love. And I fear it too. And, as I told my wife when we had first begun our courtship, I simply hope love is bigger than fear. I hope my love is bigger than fear. I hope we will all know more love than fear. And when the fear arises, I hope we envelope people in love to scare that fear into oblivion.

I want to end the active pain we’re in right now. The current way I know to this is encouraging all of us to make calls to stop the madness of this regime. And to be awake to the pain of so many. To demand action on the black girls who are missing in DC. This should be front page news and we all need to be looking for these girls.  If you don’t know about this, please read this article -
 
The people working for us need to do their jobs.

The system works when we are engaged. We saw that so clearly on Fridaywhen a terrible healthcare bill was killed by our caring.

TGIFriday and I mean it!

#Day64

I've come to really need Fridays. After a week of news about their despicable behavior, the inhumanity of their aspirations and their laws and the thump each new finding hits within my heart, Fridays have become a respite.

News doesn't stop on Friday and thankfully the investigative journalists keep digging as there is much to excavate, and congressional offices are closed so I take a break. I hope you do too. 

So much is happening so fast these days. I've said this before and I remain struck by the molasses of time from the election until about two weeks ago. Everything was moving so slowly and now we're in warp speed. I imagine it will only get faster as more and more truth is exposed.

The reality is that Russians who know the truth and who are critical to our case are being murdered. Miraculously one survived when he "fell" out of a fourth floor of the building he was in. This is insanely sick and tragic. Remind your representatives that this is who our President is in bed with. Murderers.

I imagine things will get stranger before they become transparently clear.

And our role remains the same -

OUR CALLS MATTER and I know I say it over and over and over and over and over again and IT'S TRUE. 

These elected officials work for us and they need constant performance reviews. Almost every republican is FAILING. And in 2018 we need to FIRE THEM. EVERY GOP CONGRESSIONAL LEADER and EVERY SENATOR THAT WE CAN.

We are fighting for all of humanity and our glorious, sacred mother earth.

I'm taking the week off as I'm heading to Austin to learn how to be more patriotic and hang with my love.

Independent Investigation

Things are getting awfully funky out there and one thing is transparently clear -

WE NEED TO DEMAND AN INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATION INTO RUSSIA'S TIES TO OUR ELECTION.

The United States doesn't have a legitimate President.

With the possibility of treason looming over this administration, our country is in chaos. Even without treason, this administration has no clue what they're doing and lies constantly. The probability of collusion is high. We know that trump is corrupt in all his dealings and without his TAX RETURNS, it's impossible to believe otherwise. The WSJ wrote an article that he will be seen as a Fake President. I certainly see him that way.

Everything this administration does is disgraceful and the collusion and greed of the GOP is inhumane.

WE CAN STOP THEM. 

We need to stop them. 

Our actions matter.

Even if you make the same calls each and everyday, keep doing it. Even if you make them once a week, keep doing it.

Our calls matter and they influence the actions of our elected officials. Make the calls today to take this fake president and all those aligned with him down. 

Only three things matter - no trumpy, no GOP and the upcoming elections.

1. CALL YOUR SENATORS AND ASK FOR THE FOLLOWING -

a) INDEPENDENT COMMISSION TO INVESTIGATE RUSSIA. Devin Nunes running to the White House yesterday makes the need for an independent investigation more important than ever. The GOP cannot be trusted to handle this investigation without bias or collusion. 

b) NO to GORSUCH. Schumer announced today that they will filibuster the vote to ensure it takes 60 votes to confirm him. Encourage your Senator to join Chuck Schumer and let them know you are opposed to Gorsuch.
 

2. CALL YOUR CONGRESS PEOPLE TO OPPOSE THE HEALTHCARE REFORM BILL THAT IS GOING TO A VOTE AT 7PM EST TONIGHT. 

24 million people will lose their coverage with this bill. We cannot let that happen.

 3. TEXT RESIST TO 50409 and they will fax letters to your legislators. This is an AWESOME TOOL and SUPER EASY. I sent faxed letters yesterday and it took 3 minutes. DO IT. You can write them about the same issues we're calling on. So EASY.
